Then outside Parliament House, the Governor-designate Sir Henry Abel Smith is greeting by the Administrator Sir Alan Mansfield before the swearing in ceremony. Sir Henry had reached Brisbane less than one hour earlier to take up his Vice regal post. Big crowds gathered to watch. After Lady Abel Smith and her daughter Elizabeth had met Queensland dignitaries - the Governor designate, who's a British Colonel, inspected the military guard of honour.
The ceremonial proceedings outside Parliament House were completed, and Sir Henry Abel smith moved inside to be proclaimed Queensland's new Governor.
Accompanied by the Administrator, the Governor designate entered the Legislative Council chamber to take the oath of allegiance and the oath of office. Thee Chief Justice administered the oaths, while Queensland's Premier, Mr. Nicklin - standing at the right waited to express a formal welcome on behalf of the Government and people.
The new Governor was in office - and now he signs the Proclamation. Sir Henry Abel Smith becomes the direct representative of the Crown in Queensland - a state which has had no Governor for fourteen months.
