  • Description

On Tuesday (4 May), five suits seeking damages totalling $57 million (23,700,000 sterling) against Ohio officials were launched by the parents of victims of the shootings at Kent State University exactly a year ago.

Four students were shot dead and nine were wounded at the University last May in a confrontation with Ohio National Guardsmen who had been called to control anti-war demonstrations provoked by the invasion of Cambodia.

Students at the University on Tuesday (4 May) began services which are to last four days commemorating the deaths.

SYNOPSIS: At Ohio's Kent State University on Monday, commemoration services began in honour of the four students shot dead last May during an anti-war demonstration...nine others were injured last year when National Guardsmen opened fire on the students.

The Guardsmen had been called to control the anti-war demonstrations provoked by the invasion of Cambodia, and the general expansion of the Vietnam war.

Parents of the victims of the shootings have lunched suits totalling fifty-seven million dollars against Ohio State officials. With lawsuits already pending, they bring damage claims by victims or their families to more than eighty-seven million dollars.
