  • Description

France's world cycling champion Andre Darrigade, No. 44, won the fifth stage of the Tour de France, June 30, from Caen to St. Malo, managed to find enough strength to sprint over the finishing line in St. Malo's cinder-tracked stadium.

After five days and 655 miles the overall leader is another Frenchman, H. Anglade, No. 41. The tour ends on July 17 in Paris. So far there have been several accidents in various stages, but not serious enough to prevent any of the entrants from carrying on.

Two British riders crashed at the entrance of the stadium when they were within sight of home. They were Tommy Simpson, No. 127, who is now fifth in the overall placings, and Harry Reynolds, No. 124. Both men finished the race although they lost some time and fell behind most of the field.
