  • Description

The taxi drivers of Delhi are on strike.

An open jeep flying the drivers' union banners leads the procession. Union leaders shout slogans and encouragement from the jeep.

An odd assortment of vehicles makes up the cavalcade which moves before a backcloth formed by the India Gate of New Delhi. Some 1300 taxies and auto Rikshas (3-wheelers) leave their cab ranks to take part in this provocative calling attention to their grievances.

Government officials are somewhat disturbed and receive police protection. The protest marchers assemble outside Parliament Building where a protest speech is read out by a strike leader Mr Nir Mushtaq Ahmed.

While Parliament House is under guard Mr Surander Gath Davedi, Member of Parliament, addresses the crowd.
