    The agricultural sector is the most important area of Togo's economic activity, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the country's export earnings. There is also a large income form phosphate deposits and it is in this and other industrial areas that the main developments will take place.
    Togo is hoping to get French companies to take an active part in the country's third development programme. On 1 June, a French delegation arrived in Lome to discuss ways of achieving this.
    The main areas of Togolese development are agriculture, tourism, general construction and major industrial projects. The country's President, Etienne Gnassingbe Eyadema, is trying to interest French industry in an improvement plan for the Togolese ports.
    President Eyadema told a welcoming meeting that his country should become the ocean port for the Sahel Desert region and that there were plans for such a project in the third development scheme. But Togo's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Koudjolou Dogo, said the country would need assistance.
    The French delegation way led by M. Paul Huvelin who is President of one of his country's industrial and business councils the CNPF. He told newsmen that the CNPF talks with President Eyadema and his government would help the two sides to agree on areas of future cooperation. And he believed the consultations should take place regularly as Togo's development plan progresses.
