THE OBJECT IS TO INCREASE THE SECURITY OF SHIPPING TO AND FROM THE SOUTH VIETNAMESE CAPITAL.

    THE MARINES LANDED FROM THEIR SHIP IN THE NEARBY SOIRAP RIVER AFTER HAS BEEN POUNDED BY B-52 BOMBERS. THE TROOPS WADED INTO THE SWAMP KNEE-DEEP IN MUD, IN HOT AND HUMID WEATHER. THEY DISCOVERED THE VIET CONG HAD HIDDEN "BOOBY TRAPS" IN THE TREES. THE MARINES ALSO HAD TO WATCH OUT FOR SNAKES, ALLIGATORS AND RED FIRE ANTS, WHICH GIVE A PAINFUL BITE.

    ALTHOUGH MANY VIET CONG WERE REPORTED TO BE IN THE AREA, THE MARINES WERE ENGAGED IN ONLY LIGHT ACTION.
