  • Description

SCIENTISTS AT THE LUNAR RECEIVING LABORATORY IN HOUSTON, TEXAS, YESTERDAY GOT THEIR FIRST CLOSE LOOK AT THE MOON-ROCK SAMPLES BROUGHT BACK TO EARTH AFTER THE APOLLO II MISSION, AND THEY SAY AT LEAST ONE OF THEM IS SIMILAR IN APPEARANCE TO EARTH MATERIA. BUT IN THE MAIN THE SCIENTIST SAID IT WAS DIFFICULT TO DESCRIBE THE COLOURS OF THE SAMPLES.

PICTURES OF THE EXAMINATION WERE SHOT BY REMOTE CONTROLLED CAMERAS INSIDE THE LUNAR RECEIVING LABORATORY.

THE SCIENTISTS SAID THAT THE ROCKS WERE SOLID BUT ROUNDED AT THE CORNERS.....INDICATING TO SOME OF THEM THAT THE ROCKS WERE NOT FORMED FROM A VOLCANIC ORIGIN.

THE ROCKS VARY IN SIZE FROM ABOUT HALF-AN-INCH ACROSS TO SEVERAL INCHES, AND THEY ARE COVERED WITH A COAT OF DUST WITH JUST A TRACE OF BROWN IN IT, SAID THE SCIENTISTS.

AFTER THE ROCKS HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THE LABORATORY WHEN THEY HAVE BEEN DECLARED FREE OF CONTAMINATION, SAMPLES WILL BE SENT TO 142 TEAMS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD FOR EXAMINATION.
