    A REMEMBRANCE SERVICE WAS HELD AT THE CHRISTIANSBORG CROSS ROADS IN ACCRA LAST WEEK TO COMMEMORATE THE DEATHS OF THREE SERVICEMEN KILLED TWENTY YEARS AGO DURING GHANA'S INDEPENDENCE STRUGGLES AGAINST BRITISH COLONIAL RULE.

    THE THREE MEN WERE SERGEANT ADJETEY, CORPORAL ATTIPOE AND PRIVATE ODARTEY LAMPTEY. THEY WERE SHOT BY A BRITISH MAJOR WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DELIVER A PETITION TO THE THEN BRITISH GOVERNOR, SIR GERALD CREASEY.

    IN AN ADDRESS AT THE CHRISTIANBORG CENOTAPH MAJOR CASELY HAYFORD, CHAIRMAN OF THE GHANA LEGION, SAID IT WAS THE FIRST TIME IN TWENTY YEARS THAT THE SHOOTING INCIDENT HAD BEEN CELEBRATED IN A FITTING MANNER.

    LATER MAJOR-GENERAL OCRAN, COMMANDER OF GHANA'S ARMY AND REPRESENTING LIEUTENANT-GENERAL ANKRAH, CHAIRMAN OF THE GOVERNING NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL, WAS AMONG THOSE WHO LAID WREATHS.

    EARLIER A CONTINGENT OF EX-SERVICEMEN MARCHED THROUGH THE STREETS OF ACCRA. THE PROCESSION WHICH STARTED FROM THE JAMES TOWN POLICE STATION, WAS LED BY THE NATIONAL ORGANISER OF THE WORKERS' BRIGADE, AIR COMMODORE J.E. DE GRAFT HAYFORD.

    DURING THE PROCESSION THE SECRETARY-TREASURER OF THE GHANA LEGION, MAJOR AHWAITEY LAID WREATHS AT THE JAMES TOWN AND SALAGA MARKET CENOTAPHS.
