Background: INTRODUCTION: North Korea's premier Mr park Sung Chul arrived in Iraq this week (15 January) for an official visit.
SYNOPSIS: The North Korean premier was met at the airport by Mr. Shibbly Al-aysami, the assistant secretary general of the Arab Baath Socialist Party which invited him to Baghdad. Ministers and senior officials of the party were also there.
The Prime Minister's visit comes at a time of apparent secrecy in North Korea. Little political news has come to the West from the communist country, particularly since the smuggling scandals involving North Korean embassies late last year.
Mr Park is making a seven-day visit to Iraq for talks on bilateral cooperation. Both Iraq and North Korea belong to the Non-Aligned Movement which consists primarily of third world countries.
With Mr Park was a delegation from the Central Committee of Politburo of the Korean Labour Party.
