  • Description

Among Foreign Ministers arriving in Addis Ababa yesterday (Friday) for the four-day ministerial conference of the Organisation of African (OAU) were Mr. Malik Zovome of the Upper Volta and Mr. Camara of Gambia.

One of the main questions facing the OAU Council when it starts deliberations on Monday (August 24) will be Britain's consideration of resuming sales of arms to South Africa.

A resolution adopted by OAU Liberation Committee will be before the Council, asking it to appoint a committee of four to follow developments and initiate United Nations action to enforce the Security Council embargo on the sale of arms to the Republic.

The resolution also condemns France and West Germany for their continued sales of arms to South Africa.

The conference -- the 15th ordinary session of the ministerial council -- will be officially opened by Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie.

It will be the first time since its foundation that the OAU will be meeting in an atmosphere of peace and without any major problems among its 41 member states.

According to Mr. Diallo Telli, OAU Secretary-General, all 41 member states will be represented, 31 of them at ministerial level.
