Background: The demolition of the Hotel Pilgrim, Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA, was not such a 'push-over' Dec 1. On paper the plan was to bulldoze the white, wooden building over the 75 feet high cliff and burn the wreckage on the beach. Hotel Pilgrim proved too tough, only one section went over as planned, the rest collapsing under the pounding of the bulldozers.

The old five-storey hotel is to be replaced by a 500-unit motel, with unusually, a museum and other historical facilities. The site is just a hundred yards from the future moorings of the Mayflower II.
