NAOR: "Within the framework of time, the Supreme Court ordered to evacuate the existing settlement called Elon Moreh. the settlement will be evacuated. Now, there are two problems. First, where in another place in Samaria, on State land only, in a little place, we can establish a little settlement called Elon Moreh. The Minister of Justice is working on that problem and the information that the Attorney General gave to the Ministerial Committee for Defence was insufficient in order to take a new decisions."
SETTLER: "We would like to make clear that they're not talking about moving the settlement, but about evacuating the settlement, for the first time in the Jewish history by Jews and not the war or by the Arabs or what has happened during the British mandate. It is not about moving, but evacuating, and they said all along that Elon Moreh is not going to move away. The government now still has two more weeks to decide, and to find legal ways -- and there are a lot of legal ways -- for us to stay here."

Background: Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin produced a new Israeli Cabinet on Wednesday (7 November) after two weeks of delicate political manoeuvres following the resignation of Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan. The biggest re-shuffle was the appointment of sixty-year old Yigal Hurwitz as Finance Minister to replace Simcha Ehrlich, who becomes Second Deputy Prime Minister. The day before the announcement, Mr. Begin was affected by yet another political dispute among his cabinet members.
SYNOPSIS: The occasion was a meeting of the country's Ministerial Defence Committee, which discussed an Israeli settlement, Elon Moreh, on the West Bank. Agriculture Minister Ariel Sharon, a supporter of the settlement, boycotted the meeting.
Defence Minister Ezer Weizman, on the other hand, had threatened to resign unless Mr. Begin and the other committee members upheld a Supreme Court ruling that the Elon Moreh settlement was illegal since it was on Arab Land. Mr. Weizman got his way, according to cabinet spokesman Arieh Naor.
Meanwhile, at the present Elon Moreh settlement, the seventeen families living there were not happy about the November the twenty-second deadline by which they have to leave the site. One of the settlers explained why they are bitter.
