    THE BODY ARRIVED AT NEW DELHI AIRPORT ABOARD A SPECIAL SOVIET AIRCRAFT FORM TASHKENT. SIX GENERALS ACTED AS PALL BEARERS AND TOOK THE SMALL COFFIN FROM THE AIRCRAFT TO THE OPEN GUN CARRIAGE PAST A GUARD OF HONOUR OF A HUNDRED SERVICEMEN WITH REVERSED ARMS.

    SOME 14,000 PEOPLE CROWDED THE AIRPORT BUILDINGS TO WATCH THEIR LATE PRIME MINISTER BORNE TO HIS HOME. AT THE SHASTRI RESIDENCE, MRS. SHASTRI WATCHED FROM THE WINDOW AS HER HUSBAND'S CORTEGE APPROACHED THE HOUSE.

    TODAY, MR SHASTRI'S ELDEST SON, MR HARI KRISHNAN, PERFORMED THE LAST RITES ACCORDING TO HINDU CUSTOM AND LIT HIS FATHER'S FUNERAL PYRE.
