    IN THE NEWEST OF THESE MEMORIALS WAS DEDICATED AT PUSAN ON FRIDAY (AUGUST 21) BY MR. CHAKRAVARTHI NARASIMHAN, THE CHIEF OF CABINET TO THE UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY GENERAL U THANT.

    PUSAN BECAME THE FOCAL POINT OF UNITED NATIONS R RESISTANCE IN KOREA FOLLOWING THE INTERVENTION OF THE CHINESE IN THE KOREAN CONFLICT AND LATER THE PORT THROUGH WHICH MEN AND MATERIAL FOLLOWED TO KEEP THE UNITED NATIONS FORCE SUPPLIED AND REINFORCED.

    IN THE PUSAN CEMETERY ARE BURIED MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED UNITED NATIONS SOLDIERS INCLUDING MEN FROM AUSTRALIA, CANADA, FRANCE, KOREA, THE NETHERLANDS, NEW ZEALAND, NORWAY, SOUTH AFRICA, TURKEY, THE UNITED KINGDOM, THE UNITED STATES AND FOUR UNKNOWN ALLIED SOLDIERS.

    MR. NARASIMHAN DELIVERED THE INAUGURATION SPEECH AT THE CEREMONY WHICH MARKED THE ERECTION OF THE FIRST PERMANENT BUILDING AT THE PUSAN UNITED NATIONS CEMETERY. AMONG THE GUESTS WERE KIM SUNGEUN, SOUTH KOREA'S DEFENCE MINISTER, M-ROGER CHANBARD, THE FRENCH AMBASSADOR AND DEAN OF THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS AND GENERAL HAMILTON H. HOWZE, COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE UNITED NATIONS COMMAND IN SOUTH KOREA.

    WHILE IN SOUTH KOREA, MR. NARASIMHAN WILL VISIT THE CAPITAL SEOUL WHERE HE'LL TALK WITH PRESIDENT PARK OF SOUTH KOREA AND HE'LL ALSO HAVE DISCUSSIONS WITH OFFICIALS OF THE UNITED NATIONS TEAM ON THE REHABILITATION AND REUNIFICATION OF KOREA.
