    Salvage work is underway to recover the bodies of passengers trapped inside the ferry launch "Beauty" after she capsized following a collision on the Buriganga river, near the Bangladesh capital of Dacca on monday night (27 January).

    More than two hundred people are feared to have drowned in the fast-flowing river as a result of the collision, which occurred in midstream. Very few bodies have been recovered so far, and the authorities fear that many passengers may have been washed out to see or eaten by crocodiles.

    The combined passenger-load of with vessels in the collision is believed to have exceeded 200. Both captains have been taken into police custody.

    Recovery work has been hampered by the fact that the country's only salvage vessel was out of commission. A number of large boats are assisting divers in the salvage operation.
