  • Description

West German Foreign Minister, Herr von Brentano, arrived in Berlin from Bonn, November 22, for talks with Berlin Oberburgermeister Brandt, and members of the West Berlin Senate.

Reason for the quickly-arranged meetings was the Soviet proposal to end the four-Power status of Berlin.

A statement issued after the meeting between Herr von Brentano and Herr Brandt said that West Berlin was in no immediate danger in view of the clear legal position of the four-Power control of the city and the unequivocal declarations of support for West Berlin by Britain, the Unites States and France.

Mean while as talks went on between the Western Powers, the free world was waiting for the first definite proposals from Moscow. Dr. Adenauer, West German Chancellor, is reported to have stated that a Soviet Note would be handed to Western envoys in Moscow but to date no envoys have been called.
