Background: The Laotian army of the Government of Prince Boun Oum recently launched a counter offensive to halt the march of Pathet Lao and Kong Lai forces towards the Royal capital Luang Prabang, and the administrative capital Vientiane.
Film shows preparations for the offensive at Luang Prabang Airport April 8 as, under the command of General Sanichana, Government troops load planes with military supplies before taking off for the battle area.
Last month, rebel forces had captured the vital road junction at Sala Phou Koune which connects Luang Prabang in the north, Vientiane in the south and the Plane of Jars in the east. Then the rebels moved onwards in two directions: towards Vang Viang village, on the way to Vientiane; and to Krow Ka Chan in the direction of Luang Prabang.
Government forces halted the rebel drive six miles from Vang Viang. They also successfully held the pro-Communist troops south of Luang Prabang.
