TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 1: SHRAR: "We want to emphasise that we in the Palestinian Resistance are with the Iranian revolution in the same front against American imperialism, against Zionism, and against the reactionary forces in the area. We consider that we are struggling on the same front against the American policy in the Middle East."

REPORTER: "What is you specific reaction to the naval manoeuvres of the United States in the Arabian Sea?"

SHRAR: "I think that the United States of America must begin now to look to a new policy in the Middle East. It is a significant time. To have any hesitating to begin this new policy, I think that it will lead to more and more complicated situations, not only in the area, but all over the world."

REPORTER: "If there any U.S. military action against Iran, would you back the Iranians militarily ?"

SHRAR: "I think that if that happens, I'm very sure that it will not be a cause (indistinct) I'm very sure that it will be the war of all the peoples of the area, against any kind of U.S.A. military occupation in any part of this area. All the people of the area will stand in the face of any military attack of the U.S.A."

Background: The United Nation Security Council issued a new appeal on Tuesday night (26 November) for the return of the United States hostages in Teheran. The debate resumes when the Council reconvenes on Saturday (1 December) after the arrival of the Iranian Foreign Minister. While U.S. Naval vessels steam towards, and take up positions, in the waters near the straits of Hormuz, United Nations Secretary General Kurt Waldheim appealed to both sides to exercise the maximum restraint to avoid fueling the situation further. In Beirut, lebanon, the head of Information for the Palestine Liberation Organisation Majed Abu Shrar gave further warning to the United States.
