    HOBART, IN DOCK AT SYDNEY HARBOUR, WAS BOUGHT BY A JAPANESE COMPANY TO BE BROKEN UP FOR SCRAP.

    THE JAPANESE CREW WHICH WILL CARRY OUT THE 6,000 MILES TOW TO OSAKA, STARTED PREPARING THEIR GEAR AS THE CRUISER WAS MOVED FROM ITS DOCK BY TUG.

    FROM THERE, IT MADE ITS LAST EXIT FROM SYDNEY, TOWED AWAY BY A POWERFUL JAPANESE TUG, THE DAISHO MARU.

    UNDER CONDITIONS OF SALE, HOBART MUST BE RENDERED UNFIT FOR SERVICE WITHIN SIX MONTHS, AND MUST NOT BE RESOLD. SHE'S A VETERAN OF 25 YEARS SERVICE WITH THE AUSTRALIAN NAVY, INCLUDING ACTION AGAINST THE JAPANESE IN THE LAST WAR.
