Background: This year's Italian Grand Prix at Monza will start with Scotland's Jackie Stewart and Emerson Fittipaldi of Brazil as the clear favourites. It could be Stewart's chance to clinch his third world championship if he places in the fist three.

With only two more races this season, stewart's 66 points total for his five Grand Prix victories places him in an almost unassailable position, 21 points ahead of his French team-mate Francois Covert.

The twenty-five starters in Sunday's (8 September) race face potentially dangerous conditions of the 5.777 kilometre course -- one of the fastest on the Grand Prix circuit. In the last 44 years, 51 lives have been lost on the Monza track.

The safety precautions during this year's italian Grand Prix will be the most impressive over. Organisers have stationed foam-equipped fire engines every 400 metres along the track and powerful hand-sperated extinguisher every 30 metres.

A fleet of high-speed vehicles driven by former racing drivers, with experienced fire-fighters aboard, is also standing by. Two helicopters will also be available to rush casualties to hospital.
