Background: Egypt's President Anwar Sadat announced on Monday night that he was going to take over the leadership of his country for what he said would be a 'Limited Period'.

His announcement means that Mr. Sadat will take over from Dr. Aziz Sidky, who's been prime Minister for 14 months.

In the brief radio announcement that Mr. Sadat made in Cairo, he said that he had taken on the Prime Minister's job, and begun a major cabinet reshuffle.

He announced that Doctor Hafez Ghanem had replaced Mr. Sayed Marei as Egypt's top political leader, the secretary-general of the Arab Socialist Union.

By taking over the premiership, President Sadat follows the example set by his predecessor, the late President Nasser, who assumed the role of Prime Minister after the 1967 was with Israel.

SYNOPSIS: Radical changes in Egypt's political structure were announced by President Sadat on Monday in Cairo. The President announced that he was to take over the leadership of his country from Doctor Aziz Sidky, who's held the post of Prime Minister for fourteen months.
