    THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF MUSLIM NATIONS OPENED IN KUALA LUMPUR, IN MALAYSIA YESTERDAY (MONDAY). THE CONFERENCE IS ATTENDED BY ABOUT 90 DELEGATES AND OBSERVERS FROM 20 COUNTRIES FROM ASIA, AFRICA AND THE MIDDLE EAST.

    THE CONFERENCE IS THE BRAINCHILD OF THE MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN. MALAYSIA IS REPRESENTED AT THE TALKS BY THE LARGEST TEAM, WITH 13 DELEGATES, INCLUDING REPRESENTATIVES FROM EACH STATE.

    YESTERDAY THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER, TUN ABDUL RAZAK, AND THE KING OF MALAYSIA, THE YANG DI-PERTUAN AGONG, PLEADED FOR THE TEACHINGS OF ISLAM TO BE USED AS A BASIS FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TO WIPE OUT IGNORANCE AND POVERTY. TUN RAZAK SAID THERE WAS A TENDENCY IN SOME PARTS OF THE MUSLIM WORLD TO ADOPT AN ATTITUDE WHICH DISCOURAGED THE PURSUIT OF GAINFUL OCCUPATION AND ECONOMIC DRIVE.
