TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 3: HARRISON: Best still didn't know his punishment when he appeared with his clubmates at Old Trafford for today's photo call. But as soon as that ended, manager Frank O'Farrell saw him privately. He told him of the decision, which will mean losing his domestic freedom, four-hundred pounds in wages and missing the club's four-match pre-season tour. For Best himself, it was straight off the carpet and into the hairdresser's chair. Getting a haircut was not part of his penalty, but he did know that he would have to leave Manchester United, if there was anymore trouble.

BEST: Well, I would expect that. But I've come back and I know that if I do anything wrong now, it probably would be the end. So, I'll just resolve not to do anything and behave myself while I'm here.

HARRISON: Well, all also seems to have failed. What makes you think this is going to work now?

BEST: Well, I can't say if it is going to work. The club have made a decision and they think it's the right decision. So, it's up to me to prove that they made the right one. And the only way I can do that is on the football pitch.

HARRISON: Are you going to make it, do you think?

BEST: I think so. I feel great. I feel as fit as I've ever felt. And I'm looking forward just to going out and playing again."

Background: Irish international soccer star, George Best, who in May told the world he was quitting the sport, is back with his team, England's first division Manchester United. But on Friday (21 July), he was suspended by his club for two weeks.

They've also ordered him to move into the home of their youth coach, thereby losing the domestic freedom that has often been the source of Best's troubles in the past. The two-week suspension will cost the star about 400-sterling and will mean missing the club's four-match pre-season tour.

Best was informed of the punishment by Manchester United's team manager, Frank O'Farrell. The penalties are for two breaches of discipline: failing to turn up for a match in Israel and writing a newspaper article without permission.

The game in Israel was played after Best had announced his retirement from the game and before the change of mind. Best had said he was quitting because of severe mental and physical fatigue. But now he says he feels as fit as ever and is looking forward to playing again.
