    THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH RELATIONS SECRETARY, MR. ARTHUR BOTTOMLEY FLEW IN TO NICOSIA YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) FOR A THREE-DAY VISIT. HE'S THERE AT THE INVITATION OF PRESIDENT MAKARIOS OF CYPRUS.

    AT AN AIRPORT NEWS CONFERENCE, MR. BOTTOMLEY SAID THAT BRITAIN WOULD SUPPORT ANY POLICY LIKELY TO ACHIEVE A PEACEFUL SOLUTION TO THE CYPRUS PROBLEM. BRITAIN CONSIDERED THE CYPRUS CONSTITUTION, GUARANTEED BY GREECE AND TURKEY AS WELL AS BRITAIN, STANDS UNTIL BY MUTUAL ARRANGEMENTS IT CAN BE CHANGED.

    THE COMMONWEALTH RELATIONS SECRETARY SAID TALKS WERE IN PROGRESS FOR FURTHER BRITISH AID TO CYPRUS.

    HOWEVER, MR. BOTTOMLEY SAID HE COULD NOT FORESEE ANY RAPID CHANGE IN THE NEAR FUTURE OF BRITAIN'S TWO SOVEREIGN BASIS IN CYPRUS.

    TODAY, HE WAS SCHEDULED TO HAVE MORNING TALKS AND LUNCH WITH PRESIDENT MAKARIOS AND THE CYPRUS FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. SPYROS KYPRIANOU.
