    A group of Vietnam veterans protested outside City Hall in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday (9 March) about poor benefits and lack of jobs. They said they wanted 2,500 dollars (995 pounds sterling) compensation for wages lost while they were in military service.

    Inside the City Hall, a group of U.S. city mayors were conducting an investigation into the problems faced by veterans who have come home and have had difficulty getting jobs. At the hearing, the second of three in different cities, angry young veterans denounced poor benefits which did not meet education costs, and lack of jobs.

    SYNOPSIS: A group of Vietnam war veterans protested outside the city hall in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday about low benefits and lack of jobs. They say they want two-thousand five-hundred dollars compensation for wages lost while in military service. Inside the city hall, a group of mayors were investigating problems facing returning Vietnam veterans.

    Angry veterans gave evidence and Democratic Congressman Louis Stokes criticised President Nixon.

    It was the second of three hearings on the problems of some of the United States' three million Vietnam veterans.
