    President Francois Tombalbaye of Chad arrived in Cairo on Monday (19 February) on a four-day official visit.

    Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and senior government officials were at the airport to greet the African leader.

    The visit, which was made at the invitation f President Sadat, reflects Chad's new policy of consolidating relations with the Arab states. Chad had severed its relations with Israel in November last year.

    Talks between the two Presidents, which began on Tuesday morning, are centred on the Middle East crisis bilateral issues and African problems.

    President Tombalbaye will go on to Lebanon after his visit to Egypt.

    SYNOPSIS: President Francois Tombalbaye of Chad arrived in Cairo on Monday for a four-day official visit at President Sadat's invitation. He was greeted at the airport by the Egyptian President - on the right - and senior government officials.

    It was the African leader's first visit to Egypt.

    The visit reflects Chad's new policy of strengthening its relations with the Arab states... a policy which became apparent when Chad severed its relations with Israel last November.

    Talks between the two heads of state are expected to touch upon various issues... in particular the Middle East crisis and the furthering of economic and cultural relations between the two countries. President Tombalbaye will go on to Lebanon after his Egyptian visit.
