Background: In Malaya's Frasers Hill, a cool holiday resort 4,000 feet up among the mountains on the border of Selangor and Pahang States, a two-week jungle course is regularly offered to Royal Air Force personnel stationed in Malaya and Singapore.

Since 1949, both men and women of the R.A.F. have gathered in groups varying in size from 20 to 40, and learned ways to survive in jungle, and perform rescue operations. A team of R.A.F. and Women Royal Air Force personnel train themselves to make a stretcher out of jungle poles and vines and pad it with fern. A R.A.F. acts as the "victim" to be carried over steep cliffs, up and down before the rescue party reaches the destination, which usually is a preselected picnic area.

The course also provides a holiday in cooler climate for the personnel who work most of the time in tropical heat on the plains. Jungle training courses, held six times a year have proved very popular among R.A.F. personnel who gala useful knowledge in a holiday atmosphere.
