  • Description

President Albert-Bernard Bongo of Gabon officially inaugurated a 140-room Intercontinental Hotel in Libraville on February 26. The hotel, which reflects the rapid development of the Gabonese capital, cost 1,500 million francs CFA and was paid for with credits from the Gabonese and German governments, and private interests. The building houses three conference halls, the largest with seats for 400 delegates, and simultaneous translation facilities for four languages.

Among the guests at the inauguration ceremony were members of the Gabonese government, the diplomatic corps and the Greek Vice President, Mr. Stylianos Pattakos, who stayed in the capital for 48 hours for talks with President Bongo.

The talks were aimed at boosting future commercial exchanges between the two countries and the formation of a trilateral maritime association. On the cultural level, the Greek Government has offered several scholarships to Gabonese who wish to go to university or military colleges in Greece. President Bongo, meanwhile, has accepted an invitation to visit Greece at a future date.
