  • Description

In Miami, Florida, the campaign headquarters for Senators George mcGovern, Hubert Humphrey, and Governor George Wallace were very busy on Thursday (7 July), less than a week before the Democratic "nominating" convention.

At the Doral Hotel on Miami Beach, the McGovern people are busy putting together press kits and conventions material.

Further down the beach at the Carilon Hotel, teams of workers in Senator Humphrey's campaign were contacting delegates to assess their contender's standing.

At the Sheraton Ambassador Hotel in Miami proper, Governor Wallace's campaigners were also hard at work, convinced their man still has a chance of winning the nomination on the convention floor.

All of the headquarters are faced with the problems of establishing their own communication system and dealing with other preliminary problems that may result in an extra-delegate vote next week.

SYNOPSIS: The doral Hotel in Miami Beach will serve as Senator George McGovern's headquarters during next week's Democratic nominating convention. By Thursday the Democratic front-runner hadn't arrived, but hundreds of his workers had. They're truing to do all the preliminary work necessary to win votes next week.

Senator Hubert Humphrey's headquarters are at the Carilon Hotel. His campaign workers, although fewer, are as busy as mcGovern's. Humphrey is making desperate efforts to prevent a first ballot nomination for McGovern.

Governor George Wallace is in a Miami hotel, and not on the Beach as are his rivals. His headquarters are smaller, but his staff have also set up a system they hope will win delegates and produce votes on the convention floor.
