    The Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in a major political speech in Alexandria on Wednesday (April 3) explained why he expelled Soviet military experts in July 1972, and proclaimed Egypt's non-alignment with either East or West.

    Beside him as the spoke was Sudanese President ???aafar El-Nimeiry who arrived in Egypt on Monday (April 2) for a week long visit. President Nimeiry also addressed the meeting at the 10th conference of Egyptian studen
    President Sadat, in what has been called "a strikingly frank" speech said the So??? Union had failed to keep its promises on arme deliveries to Egypt and had tried to cool him off at the end of 1971 berause Moscow did not acree the time was ripe for a military attack on Israel.

    President Sadat said the dacision to go to war last October has been "a one hundred per cent Egyptian deciston against the will of the two super???were". The Etyptian leader: added that his country was always ready to be operate with whatever nation wished to co-operate on an honourable ba???
    President Nimeiry has been having talks with president Sadat on the Middle East, and economic and political co-operation. The two leaders are expected to discuss some sort of political link between their two countries. Both President's believe in an eventual merger but in gradual stages.

    President Nimoiry was last in Egypt in February, after an absence of three years - a visit that ended a period of relative coolness in relations with Cairo.

    Sudan was at one point intended to join Egypt, Syria and Libya in the Federation of Arab Republics. But President Nimeiry withdrew during discussions saying Sudan must first settle its domestic problems.

    Much of the week's discussions will centre on economic co-operation Egypt and Sudan have a common interest in the Nile and share economic problems such as an acute shortage of transport.
