United Nations Secretary-General, Dr. Kurt Waldheim, said in Cairo on Sunday (September 2) that there was no easy solution to the problems in the Middle-East, but a long term solution was in view.
Dr. Waldheim was speaking at the end of a two-day visit to Egypt, part of a fact-finding tour of the Middle-East. He had talks with Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, and was seen off at the airport by Foreign Minister, Dr. Mohamed El-Zayyat. He was going on to Jordan, having already been to Lebanon, Syria and Israel.
Dr. Waldheim said that the United Nations Security Council Resolution 242, which among other things called for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the areas occupied in the 1967 remained the basis of U.N. efforts to find peace in the Middle East he emphasised that the real key lay with the governments themselves.
