    Cyprian ka Solomon Denuzulu, Paramount Chief of the Zulu people, was accorded full honours on the occasion of his official visit to Durban city.

    The Mayor of Durban, Councillor Jackson, welcomed this rule of some two and a quarter million Zulus, and presented him with a shield bearing the City Coat of Arms.

    The music on this occasion was provided by the Native Administration Department Band; and a presentation to the Paramount Chief of a scarlet sash was made by Mr S. Bourquin, Manager, Native Administration, after the welcome by His Worship the Mayor.

    Other addresses of welcome were made by Mr Steyn, the Representative of the Chief Native Commissioner of Natal, by Senator the Hon. Major C. Cowley, Native representative, and by Mr A.W.G. Champion, Native Chairman of Joint Advisory Boards.

    The reply was made by the Paramount Chief's representative.

    Cyprian ka Solomon Denuzulu is a descendant of Denuzuly. He is head of the Zulu people and was installed a year ago. He has been touring the country meeting his people throughout the Union, as did Zulu kings throughout nearly history. In a way it provides the people with an opportunity of receiving their ruler and acknowledging his paramountcy. It is an event which is treated as of immense importance by every Zulu.

    The Government of the Union welcome such visits and tours by rulers and chiefs of native peoples, and does its level best to promote such tours and gatherings as an essential facet of Government policy.
