Waters from Assam flow through areas of Bangladesh on their way to the Bay of Bengal. Various district administrations have been warned to make arrangements to move people from affected areas to high ground.
The situation in the capital, Dacca, is also growing worse. The city received six and a half inches (about 16 cms) of rain in the forty eight hours to midnight on Tuesday. Six people are known to have died as water streamed through low laying areas of the city. An estimated three thousand families have been made homeless. The Government is trying to find accommodation for them.
