Background: Falconry is an age-old king of hunting of royal renown. German Medieval emperors first became acquainted with falconry during their Crusades to the Holy Land. Frederic II, grandson of Barbarossa, is supposed to be the initiator of this oriental hunting in Europe.
In Germany falconry has received a new home in the castle "Marksburg" near Braubach on Rhine. Falconer Reinecke, one of the 70/80 German falconers, lives with his falcons, hawks, eagles in this century-old rhenish fortress. Our coverage includes shots of a sparrow-hawk - golden eagle - kestrel.
The golden eagle is seen in flight. This royal bird-of-prey took off on his arm and returned late at night!
The hawks etc. are used to hunt foxes, rabbits or hares, partridges. The so-called sparrow-hawk is an ideal companion of the falconer.
