PRESIDENT DE GAULLE TOLD HIS CABINET TODAY (WEDNESDAY) THAT "NATURALLY" HE WOULD MAINTAIN HIS CANDIDATURE FOR THE SECOND BALLOT IN THE FRENCH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION ON 19TH DECEMBER.

ANNOUNCING THIS TO REPORTERS, THE FRENCH INFORMATION MINISTER, M. PEYREFITTE SAID THAT THIS TIME THE GENERAL INTENDS TO TAKE AN ACTIVE PART IN THE CAMPAIGN. THE PRIME MINISTER AND MOST OF THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE CABINET WOULD ALSO BE CAMPAIGNING ENERGETICALLY ON THE GENERAL'S BEHALF.

THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE RUN-OFF BALLOT OPENS OFFICIALLY ON FRIDAY AND WILL END AT MIDNIGHT ON 17TH DECEMBER.

    M. PEYREFITTE SAID THE RULES WHICH HAD GOVERNED THE USE OF TELEVISION AND RADIO BY THE SIX CANDIDATES FOR THE FIRST BALLOT, WOULD NOT NECESSARILY APPLY FOR THE RUN-OFF. HE DID NOT SPECIFY IN WHAT WAY THE RULES COULD BE ALTERED THIS TIME, BUT SAID IT WAS UP TO THE NATIONAL ELECTORAL CONTROL COMMISSION TO DECIDE WHAT THEY SHOULD BE.
