THE BRITISH MEDITERRANEAN FLEET TOMORROW BECOMES PART OF THE WESTERN FLEET UNDER THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE WESTERN STATION, WHO UNTIL TODAY WAS KNOWN AS 0-IN-0, HOME FLEET.

    THE COMMAND NOW COMES UNDER THE UNITED STATES COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF ALLIED FORCES IN SOUTHERN EUROPE WHO IS BASED IN NAPLES. ITALIAN ADMIRAL LUCIANO SOTGIU HEADS THE NAVAL COMMAND FOR HE SOUTH.

    SIR JOHN ALSO RELINQUISHED HIS POST AS COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF ALLIED FORCES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN IN WHAT NATO DESCRIBED AS A MOVE TO INCREASE THE EFFICIENCY OF THE ORGANISATION'S DEFENCE CAPABILITIES AT SEA.

    BRITISH SHIPS WHICH TOOK PART IN THE SALUTE WERE PART OF THE HOME FLEET, DRAFTED TO MALTA BECAUSE OF THE MIDDLE EAST SITUATION.

    AMONG THOSE WHO ATTENDED THE CEREMONY WERE MR. BORG OLIVIER, PRIME MINISTER OF MALTA; THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL, SIR MAURICE DORMAN AND HIS WIFE, LADY DORMAN
