  • Description

Gaston Dominici, 83, the French Provencal farmer, convicted of the murder of the British Drummond family eight years ago and released July 14 by Presidential pardon from prison in Marseilles, returned to his family and home, at Lurs July 15. The wife and son greeted him - they live at the Lurs "Grand Terre" farmstead, near Digne, not far from the place where the holiday making Drummonds met their deaths. Flashback shows courthouse scenes during trial 1954 when members of the Dominici family accused one another of the crime and finally accused Gaston, the "patriarch" of the family.

Dominici's pardon came on Bastille Day - France's National holiday. He was one of several hundred convicts freed by pardon.

After long investigation and trial Dominici was sentenced to death for the murder of the Britons - found shot dead while camping near his farm in an isolated area of this south-eastern part of France. The Britons were wartime food expert Sir Jack, his wife and eleven-year-old daughter.

Former President Rene Coty commuted the death sentence to life imprisonment 1957. Dominici spent much of his time in the prison infirmary - "the best years of my life", he is reported to have said.
