  • Description

One of the highlights of Bangkok's Road Safety Week was a big parade on Sunday March 15th which emphasised the need for care on the roads.

All types of transport ranging from bicycles through autocycles, motor scooters, to cars and lorries paraded through the city's streets to Lumpini Park to present the message of road safety to the populace.

Motor scooters and auto-cycles, which are fast gaining popularity in the East as a cheap means of transport, were given special places in the parade.

Bicycles, too, which are still holding their popularity in spite of the swing to scooters and auto-cycles were also represented in the parade.

Boy Scouts were on hand to help put the road safety message across.

Wrecked cars were on show as a grim reminder of what the careless driver can expect on congested roads where bicycles, scooters, cars, lorries and bullock waggons via for the right of way.

The Thai Minister of Interior Prapart Charusathian addressed the big crowd which gathered at Lumpini Park and also presented a car to a taxi driver who was adjudged Bangkok's best driver of the year.
