  • Description

President Carter held a news conference on Wednesday (June 14) that Cuba was involved in the invasion of Zaire. On short notice Cuba's Premier, Fidel Castro called reporters down to Havana for a press conference on Friday (June 16) where he adamantly denied Carter's charges, and countered that the CIA was involved in Angola. Castro's decision to call the three major U.S. networks to Havana is seen as an attempt to improve relations with the United States, in a time when he considers that the government with the most favourable attitude to Cuba in years, is now in office.
