  • Description

MORE THAN 10,000 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN EVACUATED FROM VILLAGES ALONG THE RIVER JUMNA NEAR THE INDIAN CAPITAL, DELHI, FOLLOWING LATE MONSOON RAINS.

THE RIVER JUMNA OVERFLOWED ITS BANKS EARLY THURSDAY (JULY 28), BUT NOW MOST OF THOSE EVACUATED ARE IN TEMPORARY CAMPS. CROPS ALSO HAVE BEEN DAMAGED.

A MONSOON CLOUDBURST FLOODED BOMBAY EARLIER THIS MONTH, WHEN AUTHORITIES WERE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING MASS EVACUATION BECAUSE OF A CHRONIC WATER SHORTAGE IN THE CITY.
