    THE NINE DEAD INCLUDED ONE FAMILY OF FOUR WHO DIED WHEN THE POWERFUL WINDS LIFTED THEIR HOME OFF ITS FOUNDATIONS AND SWEPT IT ALONG FOR 500 FEET (160 METERS). THE RAINFALL OF FOUR INCHES FOLLOWING THE TORNADO HAMPERED RESCUE OPERATIONS ORGANIZED FROM THE STATE CAPITAL OF BIRMINGHAM ABOUT 30 MILES (48 KILOMETRES) AWAY.

    TWO OTHER TOWNS IN THE DISTRICT REPORTED SLIGHT DAMAGE FOLLOWING THE STORM.
