  • Description

Prime Minister Walter Nash of New Zealand on a European tour arrived at London Airport Apr 11. To attend the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference in London May 3, Mr. Nash (SOF) said apartheid would unavoidably be a subject of discussion. The Conference would give the South African representative (probably senior Minister Paul Sauer) a chance to explain the apartheid policy.

Mr. Nash said in New Zealand there was "not a shadow of anti-racialism". One of the reasons why there were no Maoris in the rugby team due to tour South Africa was the respect in which New Zealand held them. Mr. Nash said that in South Africa the Maoris would have had to carry passes and use non-white transport.

Mr. Nash will devote much of his discussions with European leaders to trading. Apart from discussions with Commonwealth leaders, Mr. Nash will confer with Mr. Khruschev in Moscow, President de Gaulle in Paris and Chancellor Adenauer in Bonn.
