Experts at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (F.A.O.) have called for a 3,000,000?
Experts at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (F.A.O.) have called for a 3,000,000 dollar (1,648,000 pounds sterling) emergency plan to fight swarms of locusts in Ethiopia and Somalia. Fifty swarms are moving through the two countries and the Horn of Africa is suffering the early stages of an insect plague. There is growing concern that the locusts could spread into the Sudan and Kenya and across the Arabian peninsula to India and Pakistan.
SYNOPSIS: Efforts to control the locusts have been held up by the recent fighting in the Ogaden Desert and by the rebellion in Eritrea. But in Rome the F.A.O.'s Doctors J.S. Gill says top priority must be given to exterminating the swarms.
