    THE PAN AMERICAN AIRWAY'S CLIPPER -- CALLED "THE AMERICA" -- THIS MORNING COMPLETED THE FIRST OF PAN AM'S SCHEDULED FLIGHTS FROM NEW YORK TO PARIS. THIS WAS THE SCENE YESTERDAY AT NEW YORK'S IDLEWILD AIRPORT AS THE SLEEK BOEING 707 JET-LINER PREPARED TO LEAVE ON THE HISTORIC FLIGHT.

    THE BIG PLANE, CARRYING 111 (ONE-HUNDRED AND ELEVEN) PASSENGERS AND A CREW OF 12 (TWELVE), LANDED AT PARIS AFTER FIGHTING FOG AND MURKY WEATHER MOST OF THE WAY.

    THE FLIGHT TOOK EIGHT_HOURS AND TWENTY-MINUTES. CLIMATIC CONDITIONS DELAYED ARRIVAL IN PARIS BY APPROXIMATELY 95 (NINETY-FIVE) MINUTES.

    THE INAUGURAL FLIGHT WAS PACKED WITH CELEBRITIES, INCLUDING FILM STAR GREER GARSON. (PAUSE - UNTIL GARSON GETS ON PLANE)
    BOTH PAN AMERICAN AND BRITISH OVERSEAS AIRLINESNOW HAVE REGULAR TRANS-ATLANTIC JET PASSENGER SERVICE. THE BRITISH COMET FOUR JET-LINER BEGAN SERVICE EARLIER THIS MONTH.

    THE BATTLE TO MAKE THE EARTH SMALLER, CONTINUES. IT USED TO TAKE 11 HOURS TO FLY THE ATLANTIC. NOW, IT TAKES ONLY SEVEN.
