    HEAVY FIGHTING IS REPORTED TO HAVE BROKEN OUT AGAIN IN THE YEMEN BETWEEN YEMENI ROYALISTS AND EGYPTIANS SUPPORTING THE YEMENI REPUBLICAN GOVERNMENT. THE FIGHTING IS SAID TO HAVE PARTICULARLY INTENSIFIED SINCE THE FORMATION OF A NEW YEMENI GOVERNMENT, HEADED BY MAJOR-GENERAL HASSAN AL AMARI AS PRIME MINISTER.

    GENERAL AMARI, THE FORMER VICE PRESIDENT, WAS SWORN IN AS THE YEMENI PRIME MINISTER ON JANUARY 12TH.

    DURING THE YEMENI REVOLUTION IN 1948, HE TOOK CHARGE OF THE COUNTRY'S RADIO COMMUNICATIONS AND WAS IMPRISONED AFTER THE REVOLUTION WAS SUPPRESSED. HE WAS NOT RELEASED UNTIL 1956, AFTER ANOTHER REVOLUTION, WHICH WAS ALSO SUPPRESSED. HOWEVER, HE ESCAPED TO JOIN ANTI-ROYALIST TRIBES.

    AFTER THE SUCCESSFUL REVOLUTION IN SEPTEMBER, 1962, GENERAL AMARI WAS APPOINTED MINISTER FOR COMMUNICATIONS. HE ALSO BECAME VICE PRESIDENT AND DEPUTY SUPREME COMMANDER OF THE YEMENI ARMED FORCES.

    IN THE LATEST FIGHTING IN THE YEMEN, THE ROYALIST FORCES ALLEGE THAT POISON GAS BOMBS WERE DROPPED ON SOME ROYALIST VILLAGES. MR. HASHEM, THE YEMENI ROYALIST INFORMATION MINISTER, SAID LAST WEEK THAT THE UNITED NATIONS AND THE BRITISH, AMERICAN AND MOSLEM GOVERNMENT HAD BEEN ASKED TO INVESTIGATE HIS GOVERNMENT'S ALLEGATIONS.
