M. Ferhat Abbas, the Algerian nationalist leader, confered with President Bourguiba of Tunisia, March 17, in Tunis, during celebrations marking the end of the month-long Ramadan fast.
With M. Abbas was his Information Minister Mohammed Yazid who later that day made known for the first time in public the Algerian Provisional Government's decision to accept the French Government's offer to hold peace talks in a bid to end the seven-year Algerian conflict. French rule there dated back 130 years.
President Bourguiba, whose country neighbours on Algeria and harbours the Abbes Government-in-exile, is a prime mover in the bid to bring peace and stability to North Africa following his talks with President de Gaulle of France late last month.
The peace talks, it was expected, would open towards the end of this month in neutral Switzerland.
