    THE EGYPTIANS, "THE CROCODILES OF THE NILE," KEPT THEIR LEAD FROM THE START, WITH EL SHAZLY, AND AMATEUR, BETTING THE PACE, FOLLOWED BY PROFESSIONALS AYED ABDEL GELIL, 25, AND ABDEL ABOU HEIF, 30, FINISHING JUST OVER 8 1/2 MINUTES BEHIND HIM.

    AMONG COMPETING NATIONS WERE HUNGARY, JUGOSLAVIA, IRAQ, SPAIN AND ARGENTINA.
