The Canadian Trade Commission in Bombay, Mr. F. T. Harris, presented a token bag of Canadian wheat representing the first consignment of about 1,400 tons under the Canadian 1957/58, programme for India.

Mr. S. G. Kazi, Bombay's Minister for Civil Supplies, received the bag at a formal ceremony in Bombay docks on December 17th.

The first consignment was brought to India by the S.S. "CALLIOPE".

Accepting the wheat on behalf of the Union Government, Mr. Kazi said that the Canadian Government was "generous" to give aid amounting to seven million dollars for the purchase of Canadian wheat during 1957/1958. "It is estimated that this sum will fetch about 110,000 tons of wheat." he added.
