Background: Kashgar, a renowned border city in the southern part of the Sinkiang Uighur Autonomous Region has a history of more than 1,500 years. Great changes have taken place in Kashgar since liberation.
Before liberation, this part of the city was a heap of dilapidated mud hovels. Modern roads and new buildings have turned the old Kashgar into a thriving city.
This mosque was built hundreds of years ago but it looks completely new again after and renovation.
City construction has made great headway in Kashgar since liberation yet the local industrial development is even more striking. The few hand workshops in old Kashgar have given way to scores of modern factories, including flour mills, farm machinery plants and textile mills.
The development of production has brought about a flourishing economy and constant improvements in the standard of living for the national minorities who live in Kashgar.
