Background: INTRODUCTION King Khaled of Saudi Arabia has been in London for some time, receiving medical treatment at the Wellington Hospital for a leg condition.
SYNOPSIS: During his stay he has been seeing a steady stream of high ranking visitors -- the latest of which was the new British Foreign Secretary, Dr. David Owen. The Saudi monarch, one of the ore conservative and retiring of Arab leaders, was seldom seen outside his kingdom before he took power two years ago. Britain and Saudi Arabia have a strong relationship -- Saudi Arabia supplies most of Britain's oil requirements and Britain is one of the Arab nation's major arms suppliers.
King Khaled was visited by another Arab monarch on Friday (4 March) -- King Hussein of Jordan. It was King Hussein's first visit abroad since the death of his wife, Queen Alia, in a helicopter crash on February, the ninth. No details we were released of matters discussed by King Khaled with his visitors, but King Hussein has recently had talks in Amman with the United States Secretary of State, Mr. Cyrus Vance on prospects for reconvening the Geneva Middle East Peace Conference.
